They feed our growing imagination while contributing to how we see or want to see the wider world. Through local legends, we learn to define our own meanings of hero and villain, comedy and tragedy, mystery and truth. As time passes, we create new stories to hand down to kin, becoming the characters ourselves. And, no matter if we play Othello or Iago, La Llorona or El Chupicabra, we uncover the adventure of life. This year s Leyendas encompass love, loss and wonder. Some intertwine high emotion with human drama, while others harken back to sacred tradition and the spirit of the mountains. From the way in which we honor our fallen to the magic of Northern New Mexico s surrounding beauty, Taos legends set the stage for our stories; they help craft the ongoing script for nuestros cuentos.
